KIM CAMERON

“Angels We Have Heard On High”

What inspired you to record a holiday song?

I have actually recorded 3 so far, and figure I have a few more left in me to record.  Christmas is such a magical time for me.  I think it’s a season that brings the best out of everyone.  Music always reminds me of that feeling.

What is your fondest holiday memory as a kid?

I am not sure one Christmas was better than another. I like to think of all of them as my special time.  A time when the family smiled and laughed a lot. We ate a lot, and as we got older, drank a lot.  No one talked much about work, but focused on each other and being in the moment.  That’s what I remember.

Do you still get excited about seeing gifts under the tree? What was your most favorite surprise?

When I was a kid, it was all about the gifts and how many I had under the tree. I grew up pretty poor, so the number of gifts was pretty significant.  My mom always tried to make us feel very special, and wrapping up as many small items as she could, was her way of showing us she cared.

Do you have any special holiday family traditions you would like to share?

I am Italian, so our Christmas was really all about Christmas Eve. Church and songs at night.  Advent, then back for food…and more food…then at the stroke of midnight (and sometimes mom and dad would let us to it a bit earlier), we began opening gifts, one at a time.  We never finished before 4 am.  It was an event!

What is your favorite Christmas/holiday song (that isn’t yours)?

O Come All Ye Faithful…which is probably ready for me to make a cover out of.  🙂

What inspired you to write a Christmas/holiday song?

After fans asked me for years to write a Christmas song, I finally gave in!  It was hard, because I like the traditional versions, so coming up with something different was a huge challenge.

Do you have any holiday recipes you would like to share?

Being Italian, we made a lot of pasta dishes for Christmas Eve and ‘finger’ foods.  Our bellies were very big each year for a couple of days after.  I have a veggie lasagna that people love, but I warn people, it takes about 4 hours to prepare….and it’s always better the next day.

What are your fondest musical memories associated with the holiday season?

Singing in Church!  With the lit candles…pure heaven. I cry every year in joy.

In your opinion, what is the all time best holiday song?

Chestnuts because it makes me feel warm inside.

Do you believe in Santa?

I believe there was a St. Nick..yes, of course.

What message do you want people to hear when they listen to your song?

Joy is around us, in our hearts, in our souls. Sometimes it just takes a little effort to pull it out.

What do you enjoy more? Receiving gifts or giving them?

GIVING

What charities do you support?

Right now I am supporting two. Guitars Over Guns, and after school music program for at risk kids, and a kitty organization who helps homeless kitties here in Miami Beach.

What are your top 5 favorite holiday songs?

O Come All Ye Faithful

Chestnuts on an Open Fire

Away in the Manager

Silent Night

All I want to Christmas

Have you ever gotten a lump of coal in your stocking?
